Woman About Town
This piece was created in response to a brief in which we represented our neighbourhoods through a publication. For my final publication I decided to look at my area through an anthropological lens, and did not include this illustration.
I used pen and ink as my medium because I thought it colour would overcomplicate the illustration. I also wanted the viewer to focus on the elements of the hairpiece and their symbolic meaning. I contrasted the more detailed elements against solid black to draw the eye, and highlight their importance.
This illustration depicts the integration of different cultures where I live. The piece incorporates aspects of European suburban culture, as well as traditional and popular Chinese culture.
